2012 Utah Envirothon Competition

Soldier Hollow Charter School placed first at the Utah Envirothon,  held in Zion National Park, April 20 – 21. They were accompanied to the competition by Science Instructor Kelly Gallo and Chaperone Jennifer Curtis.

Team members (from left to right) are advisor Kelly Gallo, Christian Rigby, Ingrid Norton, Stella Trincado, Sierra Curtis, Bryn Dayton, and Sierra Enos. They competed against 18 other high school teams at the state competition.  Christian Rigby participated with the team as an alternate member.

The top scoring team would normally go on to compete against teams from around the United States and Canada at the Canon Envirothon on July 26-Aug. 1 in Pennsylvania. However, since these students are 8th graders and younger than other high school age teams, they will not be representing Utah at the Canon Envirothon, which requires participants be at least 9th graders.  This did not dampen the spirits of these young competitors, who are thrilled with their achievement.

A Salem Hills High School Team won second place, so they will be representing Utah at the Canon event this year. Team members are McKay Trotter, McKenna Jaussi, Bryce Trotter, Elisabeth Haun and McCrea Malkovich. Advisors are Brad Shuler and Steve Haskell.
